The Mary Baker Eddy Library and Museum is home to exciting, interactive exhibits including the world-famous Mapparium, a three-story stained glass globe – the only one like it in the world. Since opening in 1935, millions of visitors have stepped across the glass bridge for a stunning glimpse of the world from the inside.

The Library is dedicated to Mary Baker Eddy, a pioneering author, businesswoman, teacher, religious leader, and publisher who was decades ahead of her time. The Library is home to exhibits, kiosks and artifacts that not only tell her amazing story, but also explore how powerful ideas can inspire individuals and change the world.

The Library is easily accessible by public transportation, and public parking is available. There is also a café and gift shop to complete the visit.

Now Showing
Currently showing at The Mary Baker Eddy Library is the photography exhibit, Fractions of Time Well Spent, which focuses on daily life in the Mary Baker Eddy household between 1890 and 1910, as seen by the lenses of three of her staff. The exhibit highlights turn of the century emergence of photography as a means of chronicling everyday life.

Also showing is a companion children’s photography exhibit with more that 80 photos taken by Boston area school children.

Step inside the world-famous Mapparium®
The most famous of these exhibits is the Mapparium, an unforgettable experience seen by millions since opening in 1935. For seventy years, visitors have stepped across the glass bridge spanning the three-story globe to stand at the center of the Earth. There, they are surrounded by continents and oceans created in vivid stained glass. While the map inside the Mapparium has never been updated, an audio and light presentation encourages visitors to ponder the many changes that have occurred since 1935.

Watch history’s great quotes flow in the Hall of Ideas®

Originally built in 1934, the neoclassical Hall of Ideas has been transformed into a grand public space with a stunning, one-of-a-kind fountain. Created by renowned artist Howard Ben Tré in collaboration with media designer David Small, the fountain is a magnificent fusion of art and technology that showcases ideas that have shaped history. More than 800 quotes covering 3,000 years of human history emerge from the fountain to address themes such as democracy, courage, equality, community, freedom, hope, and spirituality. Visitors of all ages are captivated by the content and immersive form of this unique installation.

Mary Baker Eddy
Other exhibits in the Library allow visitors to explore the life, ideas, and achievements of Mary Baker Eddy, one of the most influential and accomplished women of the 19th century. After suffering a near-fatal accident, Mary Baker Eddy went on to accomplish a tremendous amount –all after the age of 50. Find out why, finally, at age 87, she started the Pulitzer-prize winning international newspaper The Christian Science Monitor.

Go on deadline for a Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper
Through interactive multimedia exhibits and presentations, the Monitor Gallery offers a look at world events and issues through the lens of a Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor. Touch-screen computers present a virtual tour of the newsroom and simulate the moment-to-moment decisions made by reporters, editors, photographers, and layout artists as they put out a daily paper.

The Library is located between Huntington Avenue and Boylston Street, on the northwest corner of the Christian Science Plaza. Visitor parking is available for $5 in an underground garage, which can be entered from Massachusetts and Huntington Avenues.
